Taskbot

Taskbot is a task management bot for Slack teams created by XOXCO. You can talk directly to Taskbot via direct message (DM), or invite him to channels. Taskbot will automatically sort your tasks according to the channel in which they were assigned.

How to Install

We are currently testing bots in a closed beta. If you would like to join, fill out this short survey and let us know more about your team. You will be invited to a Slack channel and given instructions on how to install and use your bot.

Invite Taskbot to a Channel

Invite Taskbot to your channel by using a slash command.

/invite @taskbot

You can talk to Taskbot in channels it has been invited to, or you can talk in a DM.

Assign a Task to Yourself

To add a task, talk at Taskbot (@taskbot), add “+” and your task:

@taskbot + review design comps

Or, instead of “+”, you can use “todo”:

@taskbot todo review design comps

Taskbot will automatically sort tasks based on the channel in which they were created. You can also create private tasks by adding them in a DM with Taskbot.

Assign a Task to a Teammate

To assign a task to someone else, talk at Taskbot (@taskbot) and add “+” then your task followed by your teammate’s username:

@taskbot + review design comps @eric

Tasking Multiple Teammates

To assign a task to specific teammates, talk at Taskbot (@taskbot) and add “+” then your task followed by your teammate’s usernames:

@taskbot + review design comps @eric @ben @katie

This will assign the same task to each teammate, who will be responsible for marking it off their own individual list.

Assign a Task to a Channel

To assign a task to everyone in a channel, talk at Taskbot (@taskbot) and add “+” then your task followed by @channel:

@taskbot + review design comps @channel

This will assign the same task to each person in the channel.

View Current Tasks

View a list of your tasks in a DM with Taskbot. Simply type:

tasks

This will give you a numbered list of tasks, sorted by channel.

Mark a Task as Done

After looking at your list of tasks, identify the corresponding number (example: 13) and type:

done 13

This will mark the task as completed and remove it from your list. If this task was created in a channel, it will also notify the channel that the task has been completed.

If you don’t want your task (or its completion) to be made public in a channel, you can always add it via DM.

NOTE: Completed tasks are not currently saved anywhere. Once it has been marked as done, it is gone forever.
